Accessibility statement

We want our content to be accessible to as many people as possible. This website was developed to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA and to comply with the German Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG, in force since 28 June 2025) and its implementing regulation (BFSGV).

1. Scope

This statement applies to the website https://www.intermodal-europe.de in its German, English and Polish language versions.

2. Conformance status

According to our self-assessment, this website is largely compliant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Known limitations are listed under section 5.

3. Measures implemented

  • Semantic HTML5 with correct landmark roles (header, nav, main, footer)
  • Skip link to jump directly to the main content
  • Full keyboard navigation for all interactive elements with a visible 3 px focus indicator
  • Colour contrast of at least 4.5 : 1 for body text and 3 : 1 for headings and large text
  • aria-current marking for the active navigation item
  • Mobile-first responsive layout with no horizontal scrolling
  • Tap targets of at least 44 × 44 pixels on touch devices
  • Alternative text for all informative images
  • Captions for technical schemata and photographs
  • prefers-reduced-motion respected for users sensitive to animation
  • prefers-color-scheme respected (automatic light/dark mode)
  • Correct language attribute (lang) on every page

4. Preparation of this statement

This statement was prepared on the indicated date based on a self-assessment covering:

  • Manual review of keyboard operation and screen-reader compatibility (NVDA, VoiceOver)
  • Automated structural and contrast checks using Lighthouse Accessibility Audit and axe-core
  • Manual visual review against the WCAG 2.2 success criteria

5. Non-accessible content

The following areas do not yet fully meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA requirements:

  • Some technical SVG schemata do not provide an extended long description (WCAG 1.1.1); the essential information is conveyed in the surrounding text and in the figure caption
  • Auto-generated machine-readable outputs such as sitemap.xml are technical interfaces and not optimised for direct end-user consumption
